Block 6 is Pie by Sherry Shish at Powered by Quilting. I made Cherry Pie because that is my favorite! In this pattern, you piece the background square and then applique the pie onto the background. It is a lot of fun to make! Sherry's patterns and tutorial can be found at Powered by Quilting. As a host for Fall into a QAL quilt along, I am presenting my version of her block and my tips for completing it. All 12 of the blocks in the Fall into a QAL quilt along will be available free of charge on the designer's web site until November 13, 2018 at midnight EST. I will be offering links to the released block patterns on my Quilt Alongs page until then. Collect them all! In addition, I will be showing my version of the block every two weeks here on my blog. Want to keep track of all of the released blocks? Subscribe to the JANDA Bend Quilts Newsletter. You can also join our Partners in Design Facebook Group to follow the block releases and see the blocks of others. I selected fall batik fabrics for the wall, table, and the pie itself. Below, you will see my fabric pulls and the pieces that I cut for the background square. the brown rectangles are for the wall, and the squares are for the table cloth. I used a dark and a medium for the striped wall and a light, a medium, and a dark for the checkered tablecloth. After cutting the fabric, I assembled the rows for the background, I first sewed rows and then sewed the rows together. I found that it is important to pay attention to the pressing instructions. If you press the seams as indicated, all of the seams will lock and lie flat. Next I made my pie! First I traced the pie pieces onto Heat and Bond Lite, Then I cut the pieces 1/4" from the drawn line and ironed them on the wrong side of the appropriate fabric. Then I cut the pieces out on the line. You need to remove the paper backing before ironing down the pieces. Just as I did last week, I assembled the pie on a non-stick sheet and then ironed the completed pie on the background block. I like to do this so that I can focus on getting the parts of the pie placed as I want them to be. Once I was satisfied with the pie, it was relatively easy to center and iron the pie on the background block. Finally I sewed down the edges using a Blanket Stitch for all except the pie vents. I sewed the pie vent edges down with a straight stitch. Please see photos below. Where Can I FInd the Patterns and the Designer's Tutorials?
