Pieceful Sunday: Home Again Home Again

Courtyard, Duart Castle, Isle of Mull
So happy to be home after our wonderful trip to Scotland! We had a great time traveling by train throughout the Highlands and visiting family in Blakeney, UK, but it was time to return home.

My Internet connection was terrible there. Fortunately, I pre-scheduled my Fall into a QAL quilt along post for June 26 and it posted as planned. However, my Pieceful Sunday posts definitely suffered. The photo is of Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull. It shows the inner courtyard. Much of the castle is currently under renovation.

Duart Castle is the ancestral home of the Maclean Clan. It turns out that I am a descendent of Maclean Clan Chieftains. That made our trip to the castle very special. They even let me sign the official Maclean Clan book which is reserved for clan members!

We met a lot of very nice people, experienced highland history and foods, and saw many interesting sites. We did not see the Loch Ness monster however, even though we searched.

Of course, I had to bring some hand sewing along with me. The English Paper Piecing (EPP) project seemed perfect. The photo was taken on a train to Edinburgh. Let me just say that sewing on a train is not easy.

Most of the people on our tour were from the UK. I was surprised to find that those who noticed me sewing had not heard of EPP. Maybe it isn't as common as I thought it was in the UK.

While in Edinburgh, Scotland, I found a quilt shop within walking distance of our hotel. So we set out to find Quilt Creations! Here is a photo of the shop. Of course I made a purchase. I only had room for a few fat quarters in my suitcase though.

Most of the fabrics in the store can be found in the US as well. It is a small world. However, I did find a Scottish Thistle fabric that I had not seen before and purchased a fat quarter of it.

Hi April! I'm glad you are safely home, and that you enjoyed Scotland. I haven't visited for a while but Edinburgh was one of our favorite stops. It seems like Hollyrood Palace was there, and we were able to see the Military Tattoo. I would have loved to go into the Highlands. How cool that you are a descendant of the Maclean clan and got to sign the clan heritage book. Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
