My Version of By the Bolt, Designed by Becca Fenstermaker @ Pretty Piney

Block 11 of the 2019 Mystery Quilt Along is By the Bolt by Beca Fenstermaker @ Pretty Piney. The Sew Let's Quilt Along is brought to you by Partners in Design. This is a great block to showcase the focus fabrics of your quilt!

You can view and download Becca Fenstermaker's pattern @ Pretty Piney. To learn more about the quilt along please see my Introductory Post or see my Quilt Alongs Page if you missed the previous blocks. Remember that the Partners in Design QAL Patterns are available free of charge until September 24, 2019 at midnight EST.

My Hints and Suggestions for Making the Block
  • This block represents bolts of fabric sitting on a shelf. It is really cute!
  • I chose a selection of my focus fabrics and tried to balance the colors. I put my larger prints on the wider bolts so that more of the fabric could be seen.
  • The first step is to cut the block pieces, which consist of fabrics, a shelf, the tops of the bolts, and a background strip.
  • See photos.

  • Next, sew the strip set was sewn. It was used to construct the tops of the bolts of fabric.
  • Then, the strip set, and cut the resulting pieces to the correct size for each of the different fabric bolt widths.
  • Sew the tops of the bolts to the fabric strips.
  • See photos.

  • Sew the rows of fabric bolts together. Be sure to match the fabric bolt tops as you sew. Press as directed.
  • Sew the shelf strip to the bottom of the fabric bolts and the background strip to the top of the fabric bolts.

If you don't remember what I mean by segment, check out the Introductory Post. You will find additional information of interest there as well as a schedule.

Grand Prize
To be eligible to win the grand prize, you need to make all 13 blocks from the whole quilt along and turn them into a quilt or other project(s). Quilt tops don’t need to be quilted, but projects do need to be finished. Share a single post that shows all of the blocks in a quilt top or project. It doesn’t matter how many projects or what projects you make, or how many blocks you use in each project as long as you show that you’ve used all 13 blocks in a finished quilt top, project, or projects.

Important Note
To keep the contest portion of the quilt along fair and fun for everyone, only quilters that use all of the designers' blocks [in a quilt top or project(s)] will be eligible for the grand prize. Likewise, our segment prizes will only be open to those that make all of the designers’ blocks for that segment.

I like the way you showed off the novelty prints in the widest bolts. It really lets them shine!
